D.C does it again.

Daniel Cormier retains the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Anthony Johnson, with an impressive performance. The question coming into the fight was, what improvements would Johnson make in the rematch with a full training camp.  In the beginning of the 1st round, Cormier would land a overhand right and made Johnson respect his power. Instead of trying to strike with Cormier, Johnson would get Cormier in the clinch against the cage and attempted to try to take him down.  Johnson’s game plan would play right into what Cormier wanted to do, which was to get Johnson to exhaust his energy and dominate him.

Johnson biggest highlight of the fight would be a head kick, that caught Cormier as he was ducking. The head kick damaged the nose of Cormier, which UFC Commentator Joe Rogan thought it could have been broken. Cormier would continue the fight and would pressure Johnson against the cage. Johnson still tried to clinch with Cormier and would take him down twice in the fight. However, Cormier would get Johnson down in the 2nd round and locked in the Rear Naked Choke once again to defeat Johnson.

After the fight, Johnson would announce his retirement from MMA, saying “win or lose this would have been his last fight”.  Johnson would thank the UFC, his camp, Former Commentator Mike Goldberg and Cormier. Cormier show his respect for Johnson and then called out Light Heavyweight contenders Jon Jones and Jimi Manuwa. UFC 210 ends with Johnson riding off into the sunset after a great career and Cormier making his case as one of the best Light Heavyweights of all time.

  1. I hope that DC give Jones a better fight than their first one. The 205 division could get really boring without any challengers for JBJ if he wins the title again.
